A plan to add additional buildings to The Hotel Hershey property was presented at a meeting of the Derry Township Planning Commission.
The plan presented Wednesday by Hershey Entertainment & Resorts includes 10 additional cottages to be added in what is essentially a “re-do of a previous plan,” according to Charles Emerick, director of community development.
The Villas at The Hotel Hershey were initially proposed to the planning commission as part of an earlier expansion project, which included several new buildings as well as a new entrance, upgrades to parking facilities and other updates. These 10 cottages were included in those plans in 2017 but ultimately were not constructed.
The new proposal features minor modifications to that initial proposal, chiefly by featuring a single cul-de-sac rather than two separate loops. The plan also includes a mechanical/housekeeping building, a storm weather management basin at the rear of the development, and 101 additional parking spaces, with a total of 56 additional rooms between the 10 cottages.
Initial responses from the commission included discussion of water drainage, loading/unloading areas and other changes that would need to be put in place to bring the new plan in line with ordinances passed since 2017. There was also a note made of a steep slope surrounding the proposed building area, which might affect the proposed plans.
