TRAVELLERS to America could soon be able to enter without proof of a Covid-19 vaccination after a vote earlier this week.

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday voted to end the requirement that most foreign air travellers be vaccinated against the virus.

It is one of the few remaining pandemic travel restrictions still in place in the United States.

In June America dropped its requirement that people arriving in the United States by air must test negative for Covid.

But it has still not lifted the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) vaccination requirements for most foreign travellers.

However, the House of Representatives has now voted to scrap the rule, meaning it could soon be removed.

The White House plans to end the Covid public health emergency on May 11.

“As we approach the end of the public health emergency, the administration will review all relevant policies, including this one,” the White House said.

The CDC says vaccines continue to be the most important public health tool for fighting COVID-19 and recommends all travellers be vaccinated.

However, the U.S. Travel Association said “the need for this requirement has long since passed, and we appreciate the bipartisan action by the U.S. House to end this outdated policy .

Currently, adult visitors to the United States who are not citizens or permanent residents must show proof of vaccination before boarding their flight, with some limited exceptions.

The White House said on Tuesday it was opposed to the bill, saying the vaccine requirement “has allowed loved ones across the globe to reunite while reducing the spread of COVID-19 and the burdens it places on the health care system in the United States.”

It is not clear if the Senate will take up the bill.

Meanwhile, some other countries have brought back some of their Covid restrictions.

For instance, passengers arriving at Spanish airports from China will now be screened for Covid.

All arrivals will also need to have a negative Covid test or proof of vaccination.

The measure will remain in place until at least February 15, Spain’s health ministry said in a statement, with travellers arriving from China required to undergo a temperature check and a Covid-19 test.

“A major concern lies in the possibility of new variants appearing in China that have not been controlled,” Spanish health minister Carolina Darias told a press conference last week.

“Given the health situation in that country, we know the importance of acting with coordination, but also the importance of acting quickly.”

Meanwhile, passengers arriving in the UK from China must also have a negative Covid test.

The Government said that airlines will be required to check that passengers from China have a negative test before departure and travellers must show their proof.
